19 December 2006 Google (Maps) buys EndoxonCoverage here, here. Endoxon are the people behind the whizzy map.search.ch. Speculation thus far seems to say a) this will mean a beefed-up Google Maps interface with layers and stuff, b) Google Maps on your mobile. Both of these were pretty much givens anyway. What's kind of interesting about the deal is that they haven't bought the data part of the company, just the processing and mobile/web technology bits. That, to me, suggests that Google is still happy to keep buying data from TeleAtlas, Navteq, et al - and, perhaps, to use open data? CommentsYou do know there is already a J2ME thing form google for using google maps on your mobile? Go to www.google.com/gmm/index.html. Posted by Duncan MacGregor on 19.12.06 22:08 Wrong. Endoxon are the people behind the map images of map.search.ch only. The site was developed by search.ch Posted by denis on 20.12.06 09:07 |
