Walkers Crisps say "blame the DfT"

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your complaint concerning our driver on the A429.

Whilst all our drivers are encouraged to adhere to the law as per this driver, for a long time we have been addressing the concerns of the public in relation to their frustration at getting stuck behind lorries and the risks that they are increasingly taking to get around the vehicles.

The reason our lorries do not pull in to lay bys is one of safety. When a lorry pulls out from a lay by it is very slow and the risk of a car coming around the corner at 60 mph and not being able to stop was so great that it was felt better for lorries to continue on the road without stopping.

I understand your frustrations but in this case I think it would be better to direct these at the Department of Transport who make the law.

I hope you understand our position on this and the constraints under which we operate.

Regards

So, if I read this right, we should be lobbying DfT to raise the speed limit for lorries on single carriageways from 40mph to 60mph? Maybe not. Incidentally, the Walkers website has a very l337 URL - maybe they should rename their ridged crisp range to Walkers HaX.
