11 April 2005 All the latest, all the timewww.macbytes.com is a great idea, done well. It's a list of interesting Mac newsbytes and other Apple-related postings, updated 24 hours. It serves as both a comprehensive source of the latest news and as "something to read" - without being full of weenies (hello, Slashdot) or requiring great investment in content. It works because its design is attractive and usable, unlike MacSurfer: and because it clearly has humans editing the content, which a simple tag search on del.icio.us or Technorati doesn't. The waterways need one of these - a links site to gather together all the best local newspaper stories, press releases, blog entries and forum posts. Again, del.icio.us and Technorati won't do. I'd do it myself... but I don't think it'd exactly be compatible with working at Waterscape. Anyone else? CommentsUmm, would delicious do if you chose a tag that other people are really unlikely to use? There was something like this discussed on the delicious mailing list a while ago; a specialist (local) community tagging with a specialist (local ;) tag - it seemed to be working for them. A quick look at http://del.icio.us/tag/waterwaysnews reveals no links (+ if you do start getting spam just change the tag). But maybe I'm missing your point...
