4 February 2005 Drawing lines on railway mapsA bunch of ex-British Rail managers have put together Superlink, an alternative proposal to Crossrail. Superlink is an RER-style plan that connects a whole bunch of railways that currently terminate in London. It's a marvellous exercise in making connections that aren't quite there at present, but ought to be. Perhaps the most obvious one is running some West Coast services out of Paddington, which would just need a new chord from Old Oak to Willesden Junction (under a mile in length). As this would enable me to commute by train again, I could quite take to this. Two problems. It doesn't connect up with the Channel Tunnel Rail Link anywhere. Oh yeah, and failing the election of a Government with a clue, it won't happen. Comments |
