12 December 2004 PDF mapping (part 2)Latest update: it superimposes symbols on the map (e.g. mooring site, service station, railway station). This is courtesy of a little Perl script I've written to take an old-style Illustrator file, which is structurally identical to PostScript, and output a set of PHP instructions for PDFlib. Illustrator CS insists on saving all its default patterns in your .ai file, even if you're outputting as version 3. This means that a simple three-path mooring bollard ends up at 350k. I'm preparing a posting about the lost art of 'crisp' software but suffice it to say Illustrator lost that adjective a long time ago. Comments |
